How do you choose where you’re going to eat? Many people rely on personal recommendations. If you’re just visiting Santiago you may not have local connections to give you those recommendations. Most of the restaurant search or online ordering guides are in Spanish, which if you don’t speak or read it much, will complicate matters. Now there’s another option for you, meet Zomato!
If you’ve traveled or lived in Brazil, India (where they started), New Zealand or another of the 12 countries and over 40 cities they’re currently in, you may have already run across Zomato. If you haven’t, let us introduce you, they are an online restaurant guide with a bit of a twist on the usual yellow pages style you find in many places. Additionally they offer their guide in several languages to make it easier for you to find the meal you’re looking for.
Instead of focusing on just the restaurants in popular neighborhoods, they cover the entire city, so no matter where you live or are staying you can find nearby options. Another big difference with Zomato is that they provide the actual (although untranslated) menu for each restaurant, so you can see what they offer before heading out the door, as well as recent prices. Both can be very useful when travelling, especially if you’re on a budget or are looking for specific menu items! They update their menu’s every 3 months so no need to worry about out of date information. They also provide you with helpful info like if they have Wi-Fi access or accept credit cards so you can coordinate your food adventures with your other needs.
They have also combined the ease of sharing info on social networks with their restaurant guides, so in addition to reading reviews written by local blogs, like Santiago Tourist, you can read reviews by your friends and family. If you have a lot of online connections who share your food tastes this is a great way to know which restaurants you need to eat at next! If you fancy yourself a food critic you can provide your own reviews so that your followers can try your favorite restaurants as well!
All this info is available on their website or you can download their free mobile app, available on all platforms and search for your next meal on the go. If you have the mobile app, you can use your phone to give you directions to whichever restaurant you choose which is especially helpful when you’re traveling and aren’t sure where you’re going.
The Santiago Tourist Team will be providing you with some of our favorite restaurant recommendations on Zomato so make sure you connect with us, and don’t forget to share your favorite restaurants with us!
