With two full time receptionists, a full time maintenance guy and a total of 17 staff, manager Mario and his crew run a tight ship. Mario’s aim is to run a big hostel with a family atmosphere – so no matter who you are and wherever you’re from, you can feel at home here.
Hostal Providencia is found on Vicuña Mackenna, one of the main roads leading off Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins in Providencia. Though it’s on a large road, it’s surprisingly quiet inside, and it’s near enough to Barrios Bellavista and Italia that you won’t have to get on a Metro if you don’t want to…
The hostel has a lot of information regarding tours and sightseeing in and around Santiago. Some tours you can buy at the desk, and others they can assist you to buy. Ask the staff for more comprehensive tour information.
They also have a great little booklet that you can pick up on arrival – it’s a calendar of tours, events, classes and parties that you can pick and choose from. Definitely worth perusing.
Multiple common areas include a living room with TV and movies available, several eating areas, well equipped kitchens (yes, two) and quiet sitting areas. There’s also an outdoor sitting area if the weather’s nice.
Dormitories sleep from 4 to 6 people. There are 26 double bedrooms, with either shared or private bathrooms. Also available for longer rentals are apartments, which sleep up to 6 people. These are available for 5-month periods of time, from March – July and from August – December. These would be worth checking out if you’re looking for accommodation during a uni exchange or something similar.
Please visit the hostel’s website for the most recent prices. The hostel is very aware of what constitutes fair pricing, and wishes to keep prices reflective of available facilities and changes in international exchange rates.
However, for a general idea (and as per the website) prices range from $8,000 CLP for a dormitory bed, to $34,000 CLP for a deluxe private double room.
As previously mentioned, this hostel makes it a priority to be friendly and helpful. They’re there to help, fix, assist and guide. Different members of the staff also speak several different languages – Spanish and English are just the beginning.
