Opened in 2012 Constanera Center is one of Santiago’s latest and greatest shopping malls. It is really big and full of boutique and big-name stores. Recently completed in 2013, Costanera Torre the attached skyscraper is the tallest building in South America and is visible from virtually every part of Santiago, if you’re trying to find this mall all you have to do is head towards it!
There are 7 floors of shops and services, including; jewelers, bookshops, high-end fashion and accessories, sporting goods, kitchenware, home decoration and more. It boasts a variety of foreign brands – TopShop, Zara, Levi’s, Bobbi Brown, M.A.C., Espirit, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Steve Madden, Victoria’s Secret and H&M, just to name a few. All the cell phone, TV and internet provider companies have offices on the basement floor, along with Easy (hardware/home and garden store) and one floor up, a massive Jumbo supermarket.
Of course, Chile’s three major department stores are also here: Paris, Ripley and Falabella. There’s parking on site so that you can load your mounds of purchases into your car easily and a Starbucks outside to rejuvenate after your shopping marathon. If you’re after proper food, there’s a huge variety of restaurants and a food court on the upper levels. There’s even a cinema, CinePlanet, that shows recent release films, make sure you get tickets for the sub(subtitled) and not dub(dubbed) if you want to watch them in English.
The Mall is open from 10am-10pm with Jumbo opening earlier and some shops closing at 9pm, some restaurants and the movie theater remain open until 11-12pm. The restaurants and the movie theater are also open most holidays so it’s a good bet when the rest of the city is closed. Check their Facebook page for holiday updates. They also put on an impressive annual holiday decoration display throughout the mall, if you need to get into the holiday spirit while shopping for presents stop by, in December you can usually visit with Santa too!
The long awaited viewpoint at the Costanera Torre is now open to the public. The tallest building boasts the highest view in South America, at 300 meters Sky Costanera has the most impressive 360° view of Santiago you will find. Open 365 days a year you can check it out whenever you visit Santiago, just check the weather as you want the clearest days/nights for the best view. If you’re planning for out of town visitors during the holidays, you can buy your tickets in advance so you don’t miss out. It’s open from 10am-10pm with the last elevator heading up at 9pm, if you want to go for the sunset make sure you time it correctly. They also host special events so if you want to celebrate on top of the world, or at least Chile, contact them for details!
If you’re vacationing in Chile, head to the On Tour desk on the 2nd floor, if you show your Passport or foreign ID you get a special discount book for current specials at many of stores and restaurants in the mall. With discounts typically ranging from 10-30% it’s worth it to check out when you arrive! They also often have special online promotions as well.
How to get there?
If you’re not walking, the Mall is still very easy to find, located on the border of Las Condes and Providencia, its just a block from Metro station Tobalaba. It’s also on the main road that traverses from Vitacura right into downtown Santiago, so getting a bus or taxi there is very easy.
